Business Continuity Management with BS 25999 Ignoring potential risks or threats to a business can prove disastrous should a serious incident occur for which no preparation has taken place. There are many classes of "disaster", from internal IT failures resulting in a loss of key data through to more destructive incident such as a fire. For many companies and especially those in the IT sector, it is essential to have contingency plans in place to cater for disastrous events such as fire or flood as well as rather more localised but equally damaging incidents which may disable the business operation and result in significant and equally damaging client dissatisfaction. BS 25999 deals with the entire lifecycle of business continuity management from inception and risk analysis through to implementation and testing and ensures that such planning is embedded into the business operation. This Standard is written so as to complement other management system standards such as ISO 9001, 14001 etc. and they contain many common elements.
