What is TickIT?
TickIT is a scheme used by the Certification Bodies (Assessors), to focus more
heavily on processes related to software design and development where these are
carried out in organisations aiming for ISO 9001 certification.
The reason for this additional emphasis is due to the historically high
potential for weaknesses in developed software, not just in terms of "bugs", but
also the very common problem of software outcomes or products not entirely
reflecting the original requirement, or customer need.
The TickIT Guide provides developers and
assessors with practical guidelines on software development lifecycle models as
well as examples of best practice.
How does
TickIT work?
The Assessment and follow up
Assessment under TickIT is normally a two stage approach whereby an initial pre-assessment is followed up by the full assessment. Surveillance visits may also be more frequent depending on the size and complexity of the organisation.
Do you have to follow the TickIT Guide?
The TickIT guide is just that, a guide, and an organisation may very well follow its own lifecycle processes and controls based on industry best practices.
